The Detroit Red Wings have reacquired one of their most popular recent players.

David Perron, who played for the Wings for two seasons (2022-24), was acquired Thursday, March 5, for a conditional fourth-round pick. Perron, 37, is in the last year of a two-year, $8 million deal he signed with the Ottawa Senators in summer 2024.

Perron has 10 goals and 25 points in 49 games this season. The 6-foot forward was a 20-goal scorer while with the Wings, as well as a power play contributor.

The Wings had interest in re-signing Perron two years ago, but could not match the Senators' offer. Perron was valued not just for his on-ice contributions but for how he was off the ice, with a positive vocal presence.

The NHL trade deadline is 3 p.m. Friday.

This is a developing story.
