Dana White: Ian Machado Garry can be a 'serious threat' to Islam Makhachev

Dana White highlights one scenario where Ian Machado Garry could pose problems for Islam Makhachev.

Welterweight champion Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) makes his first title defense against Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) in the UFC 330 headliner on Aug. 15 card at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.

Makhachev predicted that he will finish Machado Garry inside three rounds, but UFC CEO White thinks things could get interesting if the fight remains on the feet.

"I think it's a great fight, actually," White told The MacLife. "If you look at what Ian Garry has been able to do, he frustrates people. His takedown defense has been excellent, and we'll see if he can stay on his feet. Obviously, if he can stay off the ground, he poses a serious threat to Islam."

Machado Garry earned his title opportunity after back-to-back unanimous decision wins over top contender Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad. He finds himself a big +280 underdog against Makhachev, who is a -390 favorite according to FanDuel.
