Attention may have shifted to the Red Sox and their 14-game win streak, but the Boston Bruins are 70 days from the start of the 2026-27 regular season. The offseason has been in a dead window for a while, but slowly, NHL news trickles in.
It is prospects’ week at Boston Hockey Now. Throughout the week, we will have a top 15 list of the prospects and further coverage on those who did not make the cut. The list started yesterday with Nos. 15-11, and that was not the only Bruins’ news of the day.
Marco Sturm was honored in his home country, and the Providence Bruins’ all-time leading scorer is joining Fabian Lysell in the search for a new opportunity.
Elsewhere around the league, both Connor Bedard and Cole Perfetti met with the media yesterday after signing five-year deals last week. Bedard spoke on the Patrick Kane rumors, and Perfetti addressed the Connor Hellebuyck trade talk. A look at the timeline of the Penguins’ rebuild, and a former Maple Leaf goaltender is hanging up the skates.
There is also a July trade board to check out.

Boston Bruins
PROSPECTS: The prospect rankings are rolling out over the next few days, and yesterday got started with 15-11. One of them is further along in his development, but all five still need some time before they wear the Spoked-B. Especially the Russians. Stay tuned for the second and third parts this week, and we will get into some of the prospects left off the board.
Boston Bruins (via ): Marco Sturm received Germany’s highest civilian honor yesterday. He was presented with The Cross of Merit on Ribbon, the first award of The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
NHL News & National Hockey Now
Colorado Hockey Now: Georgii Merkulov’s time with the Bruins is over. Yesterday, the Colorado Avalanche announced a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $850,000. Merkulov dressed for 11 NHL games over the past three seasons and finished with one assist. He scored 240 points (94-146–240) in 271 games with the P-Bruins, and led the team in scoring in each of the last four seasons.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have been in a rebuild, and although they made the playoffs last season, their work is not fully complete. Dan Kingerski dives into the expectations and timeline of the rebuild in Pittsburgh.
Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard is fresh off his 21st birthday and a five-year, $75 million contract. He met with the media yesterday and spoke about the new deal, his shoulder injury, and a potential reunion with Patrick Kane. Jack Bushman has more from the third-highest paid player in the league.
Sportsnet: Jets players are anxious about the Connor Hellebuyck trade rumors, and Cole Perfetti said that they know “as much as everyone else in the city of Winnipeg.” That did not change anything for him, as he just signed a 5x$6M deal, and he added that he did not seriously think about going to arbitration with the Jets.
Bleacher Report: Trade board! Headlined by Connor Hellebuyck and Dylan Larkin, Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report looks at which names may be available this summer.
Pavel Zacha is No. 12 on the board, and Mason Lohrei is No. 7.
TSN: Jack Campbell announced his retirement through his Instagram, and he is becoming an identity and performance coach. The Stars drafted him in the first round of the 2010 draft, and he finished with a 93-52-18 record with Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Edmonton.
The Oilers are on the hook for a buyout payment every year until the 2029-30 season.
