The dog days of the NHL offseason are very near, if not here already, but moves are still coming through.

In Bruins news, the report cards are back out for the offseason moves, and a journeyman defenseman with a stop in Boston is hanging up the skates. The Bruins also moved on from a 2021 first-round pick earlier this summer, and he signed a one-year deal with a fresh opportunity ahead.

Elsewhere around the league, the Jets signed their 2026 first-round pick to an entry-level contract yesterday, and he will leave Sweden for Manitoba this fall. Arbitration dates were revealed, and a Rangers defenseman then settled on a one-year deal to avoid his hearing. The Sabres also avoided an arbitration hearing by signing a 25-year-old forward to a four-year deal. The Sabres were not done there; they also brought in a senior advisor.

In free agency rumors, the Blackhawks may be looking towards an old friend for a reunion.

Happy Tuesday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:

Boston Bruins

OFFSEASON MOVES: The Bruins set out to acquire speed and skill this summer. They also addressed their need for a right-shot defenseman, twice, and cleared the lane for Michael DiPietro to assume the backup role next season. Check out the offseason grades.

O2K Sports Management (via ): Former Bruin Jordan Oesterle is hanging up the skates. He played in 409 NHL games across 12 seasons and finished with 96 career points (23-73–96). He played in 22 games with the Bruins during the 2024-25 season.

Jordan, you showed the hockey world that hard work pays off. From going undrafted as a college free agent to creating a 12 year pro hockey career, there's no doubt you left your impact on the game and serve as an inspiration to others looking to follow in your footsteps.… pic.twitter.com/4Vd4Z0ixlf

Oesterle signed his last NHL contract with the Bruins (2x$775K, 2024), but he was claimed off waivers in March 2025.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Colorado Hockey Now: There it is. Fabian Lysell inked a one-year deal worth $850,000 yesterday. The 23-year-old was acquired in the Ivan Ivan trade and is hoping to find a better fit in Colorado. He is one of a few young players the Avalanche brought in this summer. Aarif Deen has more on the signing.

TSN: The Winnipeg Jets are bringing eighth overall pick Viggo Bjorck to North America. The Swedish center is leaving Djugårdens IF, where he had 15 points (6-9–15) in 42 games, and will join the Jets organization for the upcoming season.

PuckPedia: Hearing dates are out for the 12 RFAs who elected for arbitration. Jamie Drysdale and Cole Perfetti start on July 20, and Akira Schmid has the last scheduled hearing on August 1.

Forever Blueshirts: Shortly after the dates were announced, Braden Schneider signed a one-year deal with the Rangers. He will carry a $5.5 million cap hit, and he is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights when his deal expires next summer.

Sportsnet: The Sabres signed Peyton Krebs to a four-year deal yesterday to avoid an arbitration hearing. The 25-year-old center will carry a $4.5 million cap hit, and he has a seven-team no-trade clause in the last two years of his deal.

The Sabres also hired John Davidson, 73, as a senior advisor. Davidson has spent 18 seasons as the president of hockey operations for the Blues, Blue Jackets, and Rangers.

Chicago Hockey Now: Does a reunion with Patrick Kane make sense for the Blackhawks? There have been reports linking the two sides, so Jack Bushman dives into both sides of the case.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Matthew Tkachuk called his Team USA teammate Jack Hughes to let him know what the Devils are getting in Evan Rodrigues and Jesper Boqvist. Both arrived from Florida in the Jacob Markstrom trade, and Tkachuk went on to endorse both players on his podcast.
