The IIHF World Championships are over, and two Boston Bruins picked up another medal this year with Team Finland.

Finland beat Switzerland in overtime to win their third gold medal in the last eight years, and Norway won the bronze medal and picked up the country’s first medal at the tournament. Switzerland picked up its third straight silver medal at the tournament.

The IIHF also revealed its 2026 Hall of Fame class yesterday, which notably included former captain Patrice Bergeron. He was one of eight, including two builders, at the ceremony in Zurich yesterday.

Around the NHL, a fake report came out about the Maple Leafs’ coaching search, which led to a report that the coach turned the team down. The Leafs are also interviewing a Cape Cod native for their assistant GM position, as he is expected to leave Minnesota for a promotion elsewhere. There’s also some bold trade talk from Philadelphia and the pros and cons of a free agency signing in NY.

The Kitchener Rangers also won the Memorial Cup yesterday, and one of their impact players appears to be going back to the draft.

Happy Monday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:

IIHF HALL OF FAME: Patrice Bergeron was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame yesterday. The former Bruins captain won a World Championship with Canada in 2004, a World Juniors in 2005, and Olympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014. He also won gold at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

He is member No. 25 in the Triple Gold Club.

Alongside Bergeron, Andres Ambühl, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Niklas Kronwall, Florence Schelling, and Thomas Vanek were inducted as players, and Ralph Krueger and Luc Tardif were inducted as builders.

Bergeron is eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame this year.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

TSN: Rumors circulated from a fake account that Denver coach David Carle was landing in Toronto. Not true. The Maple Leafs are conducting a “wide-ranging” search for their head coaching job, but neither Jay Woodcroft nor Carle is in the running.

Frank Seravalli (via ): According to Frank Seravalli, Carle “politely declined” an interview with the Leafs.

Sources said David Carle and the #Leafs brass had a pleasant conversation early in their process where he politely declined an invitation to interview for their head coaching vacancy.

From here, feels like Carle is a man on a mission to fix #cawlidgehockey.

Sportsnet: Judd Brackett, Minnesota’s director of amateur scouting, is leaving for an “elevated position for another team,” according to Michael Russo. Elliotte Friedman reported that the Maple Leafs are one of the teams allowed to speak to the Harwich native, and they are looking at him for their assistant GM role.

Forever Blueshirts: Bobby McMann is due for a raise this summer. Should the Rangers be the team to give it to him? John Kreiser weighs the pros and cons of making the move; the Rangers need help on offense, and McMann is coming off a 29-goal season.

AFP Analytics projects McMann to sign a four-year deal with a $5.3 million cap hit.

Philly Hockey Now: This one is bold. Will James looks at whether the Flyers should trade into the top five at this year’s draft. They also need a 1C, and while they can make a big splash for an established player, two teams in the top five are open for business, as long as it’s worth their while.

IIHF (video via ): Finland won their first World Championships gold medal since 2022. They beat host Switzerland 1-0 in overtime yesterday, and goaltender Justus Annunen (NSH) posted a 22-save shutout.

20-year-old Konsta Helenius (BUF) scored the golden goal for Finland yesterday at the 10:42 mark of overtime, and he finished his check.

Switzerland has silver-medaled in each of the last three World Championships. Last year, Team USA beat them in overtime, 1-0. They lost 2-0 to David Pastrnak, Pavel Zacha, and Team Czechia in 2024.

IIHF (video via ): Earlier in the morning, Norway medaled. Canada scored twice in the last 1:16 of regulation to force overtime, but Noah Steen (TBL) scored the game-winner to win Norway’s first medal at the World Championships.

TSN: The Kitchener Rangers are the Memorial Cup champions. Sam O’Reilly (TBL) had four points (1-3–4), and Jack Pridham (see below) scored his tournament-leading fifth goal in a 6-2 win over Everett. It’s the Rangers’ third Memorial Cup in franchise history and first since 2003.

Chicago Hockey Now: Today is June 1, and it looks like Jack Pridham will be heading back to the draft. He needed to either commit to a college, giving the Blackhawks two more years of his rights, or sign an entry-level contract. He did neither, and the 6-foot-2 winger will look to be taken by a new team at this year’s draft.

Elite Prospects: Here is a good read on Rangers’ head coach Jussi Ahokas, who just became the first European coach to win the Memorial Cup. He has longed for an NHL job, hoping to climb the ladder and make his name known, but he’s from Finland, and he never played in the NHL.
