Diamondbacks blow it bigtime in the first. Runners on first and third with no outs and CoJack pops up to short center, Dunn walks(Int), Upton K's and then Young grounds out.
So they walked Dunn to get to Upton, who had an inconsistent Chris Young hitting behind him.

Wasn't it just a week or so ago when Melvin stumbled upon the magic ingredient of Upton hitting 3rd in front of Dunn? And Upton produced big time.

That lasted for two games. Since then Upton has batted 5th twice, then 2nd a few times (ahead of a slumping Conor Jackson), then 5th again a few times. The same with Chris Young -- up and down and up and down.

No wonder our young talent produces only when they leave for another team.

And Jackson popped up to short center. A line drive hitter trying to be a homerun hitter. The very reason that Upton was demoted.

We're lucky that Drew has been put at leadoff (with the heart of the batting backing him up) and left there. His average is up to .290 and he's becoming an elite shortstop.

It's also a good thing that Eric Byrnes isn't around to bounce in and out of leadoff, leaving Drew without an identity.

Did you see that Bob Melvin was halfway out to the mound to change pitchers, then turned around and headed back to the dugout? According to Sutton, Melvin lost track of what was happening on on the field.

Is our manager the Mad Scientist or an Absent Minded Professor? Either way, he'd never get promoted to Department Head.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, Sutton really criticized Melvin at the end of the game for benching Mark Reynolds and Chris Snyder in this crucial game. In Reynolds case, he said that Melvin was damaging Mark Reynolds' confidence. He also criticized not starting Chad Tracy, who evidently had good stats against their starting pitcher.

It's not the first time that Sutton has criticized Bob Melvin on the air recently.

There is certainly a possibility that the D'backs top brass are allowing Sutton to prepare the fans for a Melvin dismissal. Just as Ken Kendricks did preceeding the Gonzo trade.

What a blatant disregard for anything remotely factual. The slumping Conor Jackson is hitting at a .362/.424/.448 clip for the month, and has a total of nine hits in the last three games alone. Yeah, that's totally a sign of a line drive hitter trying to be a home run hitter. He's really been killing the team in the three spot batting like that. Its also pretty convenient to ignore that Upton has been on base in thirteen out of the last fourteen games, essentially independent of the batting order (for a line of .300/.391/.567 this month). And where was he in the order for that single game he didn't reach base? That "magical" third spot.

Yes, even my wife noticed that Daron looked pretty disgusted in his post-game analysis. It was pretty strange seeing the usual drone being so passionately critical. I bet if ya talked to him off the air, he'd spill plenty of blunt critique.

Chris Young grounded to the ss with 2 out bases loaded. He swung at the 1st pitch after Wainwright had walked a batter, hit a batter and walked another batter.

Does this guy have any baseball sense????????????

And why is he batting 2nd??? Put him in the 7th hole until he figures out how to hit for an average. If he doesn't figure it out than get rid of him. Oh and I would out Reynolds 8th with the same idea.

Lots of men left on base tonight, same old crap from a so-so team. Tragic number is down to two. Yep, another typical disappointing Arizona team, alright.

Crap, the Padres are no help at all, LA slaughtered them last night, so make it one...D-back loss or LA win and it's officially curtains for this team. :titanic:

Painful as it is, this is the best way to get rid of Melvin.

Looks like we gave up

Funny how the Cardinals had nothing to play for but pride and somehow they did so. Melvin has to go. The DBacks collapse is disgraceful and a function of his inability to motivate and lead. DBacks need a major upgrade in coaching too. Someone needs to be hired with a track record of developing young players. I want a manager with a pulse instead of a comatose mannequin.

Dbacks going for the sweep against the Rockies today. Too bad they couldn't get Webb the win last night, unfortunately he had that one rough inning where he plunked two guys and then gave up three hits which cost him.

A bases loaded walk brings in the winning run, Johnson gets his 295th victory. Nine innings, two hits, and no earned runs (thanks Reynolds...).
