Despite an encouraging win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox still have a lot of work to do if they want to make the playoffs this year.

The Red Sox enter Thursday's series finale against the Braves last in the AL East at 23-31. FanGraphs gives them a 26.7 percent chance of reaching the postseason, while Baseball-Reference gives them 32.4 percent odds.

Craig Breslow didn't sound concerned by Boston's diminished playoff odds during his radio appearance on Thursday's episode of "The Greg Hill Show," explaining why he still views the Red Sox as postseason-caliber.

"I still have a lot of confidence and a lot of belief in the players that we have in the clubhouse and in the staff and the work that they're doing," Breslow said. "We've got plenty of work to do ahead of us. But when you look back at the last month, the bats are starting to come together... Some of the guys that have come up...have lengthened the lineup out a little bit, and I think we're gonna continue to pitch really well."

Breslow's right that Boston's offense has improved over the last week or so, fueled by Jarren Duran's hot streak as well as surprising contributions from Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Nick Sogard and Mickey Gasper.

The Red Sox have an elite defense and strong pitching staff, so their run prevention strategy is still working. They're also expecting to get Garrett Crochet and Roman Anthony back soon.

"We have a lot of talent on our roster," Breslow added. "We pitched excellently throughout the season, specifically over the last month. I think that's going to continue. We're gonna get healthier and guys are gonna settle into their roles."

Boston still has some ground to make up, but not too much in a weak American League. The team is only one hot streak away from playoff contention, which could be coming soon if the Red Sox keep hitting and pitching well.
