Craig Breslow Reveals 'Aggressive' Approach To Fixing Red Sox originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Two months into the 2026 regular season, the Boston Red Soxaren't where they want to be. They enter play on Thursday at 23-31 and last in the AL East.
There's still plenty of time for the Red Sox to turn their season around and the trade deadline is still two months away. However, Craig Breslow doesn't plan on waiting that long to make a move.
He already fired Alex Cora and much of the team's coaching staff in late April. That hasn't worked as hoped, so now he's looking to upgrade the roster, especially offensively.
“We need to score more runs. One way to do that is to get guys that are here to play up to what we think they can be. Another is to obviously look at guys outside the organization," Breslow told MassLive's Chris Cotillo this week. “We’ve been aggressive in terms of outreach and trying to identify players that we think can help us."
Sitting in the Fenway Park dugout Wednesday, Craig Breslow took stock of his job security, Chad Tracy's interim status, his "aggressive" foray into the early trade market and the 22-31 Red Sox.https://t.co/RBDzm8zM2v

Breslow traded Rafael Devers in mid-June last year, so he's no stranger to early-season blockbusters. However, he noted that few sellers have emerged yet, especially in the American League where nearly every team is still in the playoff hunt.
Breslow also added that he has ownership's support as he looks to bolster the roster and get the team back on track.
“The conversations I have with ownership are about ideas for helping us turn the season around and any potential opportunities that exist," Breslow said. "Ownership is incredibly engaged and aware of our performance, our players and guys in the minor leagues that might be able to help us. That’s the content of the conversations.”
Adding a big bat would do wonders for an offense that's ranked among the worst in baseball. Acquiring impact sluggers in-season isn't easy, but if Breslow's able to land one, it may save Boston's campaign.
