When the Boston Red Soxshockingly fired Alex Cora in late April, their new manager had big shoes to fill and a tough job ahead of him.

Fortunately, Chad Tracy has proven up to the task in his first MLB managerial role, serving the Red Sox well as their interim manager over the last month.

He's helped give Boston some much-needed stability after the team's chaotic start, settling things down in the clubhouse and providing a breath of fresh air.

It's exactly what the team has needed, and his approach has impressed his boss, Craig Breslow.

Sitting in the Fenway Park dugout Wednesday, Craig Breslow took stock of his job security, Chad Tracy's interim status, his "aggressive" foray into the early trade market and the 22-31 Red Sox.https://t.co/RBDzm8zM2v

“Right now, and I’ve said it before, he’s the perfect guy to handle this transition," Breslow told MassLive's Chris Cotillo this week. "We’re impressed with what he’s doing and the conversations that we have are about what we can do to help players and what I can do to support him. I imagine that’ll continue to be the focus."

It helps that Tracy already had good relationships with many of the team's players after managing them at Triple-A Worcester, where he was respected and well-liked.

“It’s a very calming voice," Breslow added. "He knows a bunch of these players so he has relationships with them, and he’s done a really good job of creating an environment around the players where they can be confident and they can be themselves.”

Even players that he didn't coach before agree. Willson Contreras, who's new to Boston this year, described a welcome "looseness" in the clubhouse after Tracy replaced Cora.

One thing's for certain: it's helped the Red Sox play better baseball.
