Over a dynamic 12-year career that earned him four Pro Bowl nods, a Super Bowl ring, and ultimately a bronze bust in the Hall of Fame, not many people caught Cowboys running back Tony Dorsett.
On Saturday night, Ravens superstar Derrick Henry joined the exclusive list of those who have done so.
With a four-touchdown, 216-yard performance in Baltimore's Week 17 game, Henry moved past Dorsett in the NFL's all-time rushing rankings, taking over the No. 10 spot. The official re-shuffling of the list took place on a 5-yard run in the first quarter of the Ravens' 41-24 win over Green Bay.
Henry now has 12,892 rushing yards on his 10-year résumé. He also moved up the all-time rushing touchdowns list during Saturday's victory, surpassing Adrian Peterson for fourth place in that category.
"I'm so thankful and so blessed, and God has been so good," Henry said afterward. "Every teammate and coach that has contributed throughout my career for me to have those accolades and the success I've had, I'm just very appreciative. As a kid, growing up hearing those names, idolizing those guys and my name to be mentioned with theirs, it's a surreal moment for me and something that I'll always cherish."
Dorsett's 12,739 career rushing yards were the second-most in league history- trailing only Water Payton- when he retired in 1988. All but 703 of those yards came in a Cowboys uniform; Dorsett played his final season with Denver.
Cowboys icon Emmitt Smith supplanted Payton as the all-time rushing king in 2002. Frank Gore, Barry Sanders, Peterson, Curtis Martin, LaDanian Tomlinson, Jerome Bettis, and Eric Dickerson are now the only other names ahead of Henry.
Dorsett and Henry's names were previously linked in the record books in 2018. During a Week 14 win over Jacksonville that season, Henry scored on a 99-yard run, tying Dorsett's legendary run from 1983 as the longest run from scrimmage in league history.
Dorsett's place at No. 11 on the all-time rushing list should be secure for quite some time. The next threat is Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley, who is still 4,451 yards behind him, at 8,288.
