There are 57 days to go before the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2026 regular season. New Orleans will do so on the road with a showdown at the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. Defensive end Myles Cole, a newcomer to the team, wears No. 57 as the Saints head into training camp.

Cole is one of several new faces competing for a spot on the New Orleans front seven. It's a battle that figures to be close throughout training camp and preseason. Until then though, Cole is the latest in our Saints Player of the Day feature.

  • Name (age): Myles Cole (26)
  • Hometown: Shreveport, La.
  • Position: Defensive end
  • Height, weight: 6-foot-6, 278 pounds
  • College: Texas Tech Red Raiders
  • Relative Athletic Score: 9.93
  • Drafted: Round 7, 236 overall in 2024 (Jacksonville Jaguars)
  • NFL experience: 1 year
  • 2026 salary cap hit: $1.01 million

A Louisiana product out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Cole chose the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks to begin his collegiate career. He'd appear in 33 games over four years with the Warhawks, recording 1.5 sacks and 3 tackles for loss among 42 total stops. After the 2021 season, Cole would transfer to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In two years at Texas Tech, he'd compile 3.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss. Most of that came in his last season, 2024, with all of his sacks and 6.5 stops for loss among his 32 tackles, a career-best.

Cole was selected in the middle of the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He'd appear in eight games as a rookie. Cole didn't see much playing time, just 135 defensive snaps and only one on special teams. He managed 8 total tackles, including one for negative yardage.

Jacksonville released Cole at the conclusion of their 2025 preseason. He was picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals for their practice squad and spent around six weeks there before again being released. Cole did not play a snap in 2025, but was signed by the Saints at the end of the season on a reserve/future deal.

Myles Cole was born and raised in Louisiana, so it would be a great story if he were to make the New Orleans roster. He'll have his work cut out to do so. The Saints have returning contributors like Cam Jordan, Chase Young, Carl Granderson, Chris Rumph, Bryan Bresee, and Nathan Shepherd at his position. Additionally, New Orleans also added Tyree Wilson, Anfernee Jennings, and Michael Heldman this offseason. To have a chance to stick on the roster, Cole will have to turn heads early and often in training camp with his performance.
