The Detroit Lions may not be actively searching for a quarterback, but head coach Dan Campbell made it clear this week that the organization is keeping an open mind.

Speaking Thursday, Campbell was asked whether the Lions could have interest in former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who is expected to be available in the upcoming NFL Supplemental Draft.

Campbell stopped short of revealing any plans, but he certainly did not close the door on the possibility.

“All I can tell you is that we look at everything,” Campbell said. “Brad looks at everything, and so nothing is off the docket, so our eyes are open. Doesn’t mean we will make a move or we won’t.”

Lions Continue Evaluating Every Option

Detroit is one of several teams that has been linked to Sorsby, whose path to the supplemental draft comes after gambling-related issues ended his collegiate career.

The Lions are no strangers to the NFL’s gambling policy. Back in 2023, four Detroit players received suspensions for violations of league rules, making the topic one the organization is familiar with.

Still, Campbell’s comments suggest the Lions are willing to evaluate each situation individually.

His message was simple: no opportunity is automatically dismissed.

Does Adding a Quarterback Make Sense?

On the surface, quarterback appears to be one of Detroit’s strongest positions.

Jared Goff remains firmly entrenched as the franchise quarterback and is under contract through the 2028 season. Veteran Teddy Bridgewater returns as the primary backup, while rookie Luke Altmyer recently joined the organization as an undrafted free agent.

Because of that depth, there is no immediate need to add another quarterback.

However, general manager Brad Holmes has built a reputation for exploring every avenue to improve the roster, whether it involves free agency, trades, waivers, or developmental prospects.

Campbell’s comments reinforce that philosophy.

Why This Matters

The Lions may ultimately decide that Brendan Sorsby is not the right fit. But Campbell’s remarks make one thing clear: Detroit is doing its homework.

With the supplemental draft approaching, the Lions remain one of the teams worth watching. Whether they make a move or not, Campbell’s message was unmistakable.

Nothing is off the table.
