The Orlando Magic were one of two NBA playoff teams to blow a 3-1 series lead over the weekend, falling in seven games as their upset bid against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons came up short.
As a result, the franchise parted ways with fifth-year coach Jamahl Mosley. The Magic have had first-round exits in each of the last three seasons.
With Mosley out, could Orlando turn its attention to a college coach with ties to the state of Florida?
Michigan coach Dusty May, fresh off a national championship win, has been the subject of NBA rumors over the last few months. There may be some legitimate interest from May in leaping, and the feeling could be mutual. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Magic are "admirers" of May and would potentially have interest if he were available.
May was previously the head coach at Florida Atlantic and, before that, was an assistant coach at Florida. His name circulated this offseason in connection with the opening at UNC, but he opted to remain in Ann Arbor.
Could the allure of an NBA opening in the Sunshine State be enough to get him to leave what is currently a top-tier college basketball job?
