After plenty of controversy, Brendan Sorsby will officially be entering the NFL Supplemental Draft following the gambling scandal that has brought an end to his collegiate career.
The supplemental draft is set to take place in July, so teams will have the next month to evaluate the pros and cons of using a pick to take Sorsby, which will sacrifice an equivalent pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. And the Steelers are among the teams with potential interest in Sorsby. According to The Athletic's Mike DeFabo, the franchise is "doing their homework" on the quarterback ahead of the draft.
It doesn't seem as if there is much room for another signal caller on the franchise's roster, as they currently have four quarterbacks under contract in Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard, Mason Rudolph, and Drew Allar. It has been reported that the Steelers are willing to part ways with Rudolph, but they haven't yet found a franchise to ship him to. And Rodgers will be retiring after 2026, leaving two relatively unproven talents to inherit the starting role.
The Steelers have been struggling to find a franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired. While it's possible Allar or Howard could be that player, it's also just as possible neither of them is. And if McCarthy, who is a bit of a quarterback guru, ends up seeing something in Sorsby, he might be worth the gamble.
