Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship have been joined at the hip since the former Iowa All-American cornerback landed with the EAgles in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft. The chemistry was so natural that the two created a hit podcast, 'The Exciting Mics,' after embracing the Exciting Whites' fan-favorite nickname.
The NFL is a business, and while they'll likely remain podcast partners, their on-field bond was broken on Monday when Blankenship agreed to a three-year, $24.75 million deal with the dominant Texans defense. DeJean led all NFL slot CBs in PFF coverage grade (79.3), catch rate allowed (61.4%), passer rating allowed (55.4), and yards allowed per coverage snap (0.72) (min. 350 coverage snaps as a slot CB; min. 50 targets). DeJean has never allowed a passing TD as a slot CB.
The $8 million per year average puts Blankenship outside the top 20 highest-paid safeties, but it's a huge raise for the former undrafted free agent who developed into a reliable safety out of Middle Tennessee State and played his first two seasons at the NFL's minimum salary before earning escalators and a one-year extension. The 26-year-old Blankenship has been a starter the last three seasons, playing 50 games and logging 9 interceptions.
