Rochester Hills Stoney Creek earned its third straight competitive cheer state title, winning the Division 1 crown with a 789.94 team score Friday evening at Central Michigan University’s McGuirk Arena.

It was competitive throughout, with first through fourth place separated by just 1.36 points. Stoney Creek posted the best score across the first two rounds at 468.94, to lead Rochester Adams by just under a point.

The third and final round saw the team deliver under pressure. With Stoney Creek slated for the final performance, it scored a 321.0 to hold off a final-round rally from Rochester.

It was the fourth consecutive Division 1 title decided by just tenths of a point, with Stoney Creek winning the last three over its rivals, giving the program its fifth state championship.

Rochester finished runner-up for the second consecutive season with a 789.52, while Adams was just behind at 789.16.

Brighton took fourth with a team score of 788.58, with Grandville coming in fifth. Hartland was sixth, Romeo finished seventh with Macomb L’Anse Creuse North eighth.

Division 4​


Pewamo-Westphalia avenged runner-up finishes at each of the last two Division 4 state finals to claim the tenth title in program history in dominant fashion, its first since 2019.

The team got off to a hot start with an impressive score of 232.4, giving it an eight-point cushion after the first round. Pewamo-Westphalia continued to stretch the lead, posting the best score in the final two rounds to finish with a 776.34.

Defending champion Hanover-Horton finished runner-up with a team score of 754.36, with Sanford Meridian right behind, posting a 754.12 to narrowly take third.

The Division 2 and Division 3 titles will be decided Saturday, with Division 3 taking place at 11 a.m. and Division 2 at 3:30.
