Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Basketball

We keep hearing the names of Providence transfer Jamier Jones and kansas transfer Bryson Tiller floating around as possible portal additions. Both have recently visited Missouri and have connections to Tim Fuller.

Though on Monday evening, Mizzou Basketball got their offseason started with an under-the-radar commitment as Tennessee transfer Jaylen Carey is heading to Missouri.

NEWS: Tennessee transfer Jaylen Carey has committed to Missouri, source told @LeagueRDY.

The 6-foot-8 forward began his career at James Madison before playing one at Vanderbilt and one at Tennessee.

He averaged 7.4PPG, 6.0RPG and 1.3APG this season. pic.twitter.com/8PdvUKNawf

From Sam Snelling’s commitment post:

He’s one of the nation’s best offensive rebounders and has a positive impact on the defensive end of the floor and doesn’t foul very often.

From a rebounding and defense perspective, this is exactly what Mizzou needs. Another plus is his SEC experience and he’s coming off an Elite 8 run with the Vols.

Here’s some film on Carey.

Mizzou has reeled in a commitment from Jaylen Carey, a forward transfer from Tennessee. Their first known portal addition. Carey has spent the last two years in SEC action imposing his physical style on the league.

Here’s hoping we can see some more Dennis Gates bat signals in the coming days.

This week’s column showcases baseball photos from Margo and me! On Tuesday, Margo covered the team’s 5-2 win over Missouri State, and I was there for the 1-0 loss to South Carolina on Friday. Here are the photos of the week!

A tough weekend for Mizzou Baseball at Taylor Stadium vs South Carolina, but plenty of good pics to enjoy.

This is a move that will immediately up your toughness and rebounding at the outset.

I’m already liking this addition. We’ll see how he fits in Gates’ system.

From @Simmons_Colin06: #TigerStyle Picks Up Transfer Commitment From Missouri Native Zan Fugitt https://t.co/ttXVBtAis9

— ROCK M NATION (@RockMNation) April 14, 2026
Enter Zan Fugitt – the first transfer commitment for Brian Smith this offseason – and a Nixa, Mo. native. He spent three seasons at Wisconsin, earning All-American status in 2025 with a fourth-place finish in the NCAA Championships at 133lbs. His time as a Badger was primarily spent at that weight class.

Wrestling picks up a transfer commitment as well on Monday. Zan Fugitt comes home after three successful seasons at a quality Wisconsin program.
