The Washington Commanders were one of the last four teams standing last season. Their magical run to the Conference Championship Game was capped by two key victories against some of the better teams in their field.
And while their 55-23 loss to the eventual Super Bowl champions stung, their improvements along the roster would lead one to believe they would be another top team heading into the 2025 season.
Not for Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport.
The writer conducted a power ranking after the draft and placed the Commanders at sixth in his list - behind the likes of the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens.
"After a stunning run to the NFC Championship Game last year, the enthusiasm and pressure in the nation’s capital have both ratcheted up exponentially. In 2025, Washington has something it hasn't had in some time," Davenport wrote. "Expectations.
"The Commanders have been aggressive this offseason, making a pair of trades for accomplished veterans in wide receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. The team added another potential starter on the offensive line in Round 1 of the 2025 draft in Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr."
DC fans might not like it, but ...
Putting Washington behind teams like Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Kansas City makes sense.
To put them behind the Lions and Ravens, though, is shocking. Detroit lost a huge chunk of its coaching staff, and its roster took minor hits in free agency. The Ravens, meanwhile, didn't win their road playoff game last season.
A sixth spot in the rankings is very good. ... in a vacuum.
However, with the way the Commanders played last season and their recent additions to the roster, the ranking is in our view far too low.
And we bet DC fans agree with us.
