What type of offense will new Washington Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough run in 2026? While we think we have an idea based on Blough's playing career, new Commanders' tight end Chig Okonkwo gave some more insight into what to expect for 2026.

After signing his new three-year contract on Thursday, Okonkwo spoke with the media via Zoom and was asked what he could expect from a first-time coordinator. Okonkwo's answer was revealing.

"You study where he has been, his track record, seen the places he's been, seen the part of offenses he's been in, he's already shown me that," Okonkwo said of Blough. "He's shown me clips from other places he's been, like Detroit, just watching all their clips and seeing the offense that they're trying to bring over here. And the way I see myself fitting in is exactly the roles that he showed me. Just watching guys with so much space."

There you have it. Since Blough was promoted in January, everyone expected we'd see a lot more of quarterback Jayden Daniels under center, something Bears coach — and former Lions offensive coordinator — Ben Johnson does frequently. Blough and head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that part, but Blough was otherwise noncommittal on the type of scheme he'd run.

Okonkwo's comments confirm what we expected. The 2026 Commanders' offense will resemble that of Chicago and Detroit. That's good news for Washington.

There's a lot of excitement surrounding the arrival of Okonkwo, as he gives Daniels the type of weapon at tight end he's lacked through his first two years. While veteran Zach Ertz was invaluable for route-running savvy and dependability, Okonkwo can give Washington a big-play element at tight end due to his speed and ability after the catch.
