There will be at least 20 teams that would be foolish not to make a courtesy call to check on his health and price range.
Of them, maybe half get past that point.
Of that half, probably another half get into a serious bidding war.

A question is this: How unlikely is it that if AZ becomes a serious bidder would it be that CC gets anything but a franchise tag this year? Not so great, which would be a bit of a shame.

Another question: If AZ signs him, are we assuming that the offense learns how Peyton plays, that Manning learns the Cardinal offense, or that there's a meeting in the middle?

Is Joe back? I'd like to know what the projected difference between a deal this year and next will be.
Great post... I think we would meet in the middle. Warner let Whiz know what plays suited him the best so I would bet Peyton would get the same courtesy.

I think it is clear that if he is a free agent...... and he is healthy..... We would be a top contender. Probably top 3 at the least.

It will all come down to money IMO.

The reality is being the starting qb for the Jets in the sports media capital versus Phoenix (a small market). Archie wanted Eli in New York not San Diego. Peyton winning a Super Bowl with the Jets would be dominate front page news. There is nothing like being a hero in New York.
Those who think that he can't get along with Rex Ryan just don't get it. Rex will run the defense and let Peyton run the offense. He will build his team around him.
Peyton has been a star in a small market (Indianapolis). Being the star in New York is the epitome of sports success. Just ask Joe Namath!!!

PS, I hope I am wrong and would love to see Peyton here in Arizona.

Football outsiders has them at #7 in run blocking and # 17 in pass protection.

We finished # 15 in Run and # 27 in pass. In 2010 they were top 10 in both categories while we were worse in run (#21) and the exact same in pass (#27) thus proving Russ Grimm is a poor coach.

As far as overrated..... I would be very happy to have one of the top 2 or 3 centers in the league accompanied with a muti-time pro-bowl left tackle.

I give no credence, good or bad, to team OL stats. Unless they know the play call and blocking assignments, there is no conceivable way they can give anyone an accurate grade/rating.
Ferguson only made 1 pro bowl as an elected player, in 2011. He was named as an injury replacement another time. I agree, Mangold is one of the best centers in the league, as I mentioned. What about their guard play? Can anyone name the LG? And Brandon Moore is nothing special at RG. I'm by no means saying the Cards OL is good but the Jets, don't seem much better.

I know what your saying Cbus.... Moore is at the Pro Bowl this year also.

With the abomination we get to look at every week, I can confidently say I would rather have theirs. 3 pro-bowlers, or as you mentioned "on the cusp of being pro bowlers" has to be better than Levi, Keith, our RG debacle, and anything on our bench.

Lmao... That's just the cards painted jet for US airways. Is that the plane they are calling the "the cards" plane? :D

Hell, I flew on that bird to Hawaii once and I didn't see Manning anywhere... in fact it doesn't even have a 1st class cabin on it.... iirc

Of course, Mr B may not spring for 1st class for Whiz/Graves...lmao

Yeah I saw the same plane @ DFW a few years back...I guess we couldn't finalize the trade for Demarcus Ware. :D

In reading the article, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell the Cards would even be considering a so-called "trade" for a player that has a possible career ending neck injury! It's a dream I tell ya!

Here is the reality.. The Jets on paper and in theory may appeal to Manning, but when you actually get into reality everything falls apart.

Aside from the fact that they have and average (at BEST) recieving core, or the fact that the locker room chemistry is beyond toxic, other factors such as playing in the windy conditions of NY, and playing in the same division of the Patriots make it so every year they are fighting for a shot at the playoffs..

Plus the absolute disaster that Favre was has to play a role in that as well.. Think about it, at this point in both of their careers, they may be pretty similar, and Favre got shredded playing for the Jets.. DO you really think Manning wants any part of that...

I don't think for a second Manning is going to make it all about money, he is going with a situation that gives him the best chance to succeed and show the Colts why they gave up on him wayy to soon...

Whether its the Cardinals or another team, I just can't see that team ultimately being the Jets..

big market doesn't mean everything in the NFL. Just ask LA. Peyton is a star everywhere as it is, I doubt the city of NY would be that big of an influence on him. Eli may be his dad's bitch, but that doesn't mean Peyton is. I think the Cards would be the most appealing team to play for in his situation

IMO, that will not be as much of an influence as many expect. Peyton has made plenty of money throughout the course of his career and doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that's squandered it at the clubs and on jewelry/cars/etc. Nor has any desires to do so. Even still, if we cut Kolb, the cap will get plenty more space

the Cards have the best WR in the game with Fitz.

Warner had such a career comeback here, (homer disclaimer) he went from a possible to a shoe-in HOFer when he left his mark in the valley. Not that Peyton needs to prove anything. He is likely the best QB to ever play IMO. But there are plenty of arguments for others. If he wins a title for the first time in 65 years for the franchise, he will really make his case for that title.
The new Cards defense is very solid, sadly most of his suitors are as well.
Our OTs are awful (hopefully that can be helped in the draft).
Him and Whiz know and like eachother.

IMO, the Cards have the best factors in his favor. Unless Bidwill completely cheaps out and makes an awful hour, AZ makes the best sense. But I'm biased lol

I'm betting my life savings that Peyton does not retire. I'm sure he still wants to prove he is still the best since this current superbowl is a lose-lose for him in terms on his stance as one of the best QBs of all time.

He....Is...Retiring........

The more I read about his condition and the fact that he still has symptoms such as numbness in his throwing arm, the more I believe this is the most likely outcome.

Even if he were to sign with another team, what are the chances he passes the physical?

A couple notes...

1: Of course Peyton isn't healthy, because if he was, the Colts would be working a lot harder at figuring out a way to keep him.

2: When released, don't over estimate the risk that comes with signing Manning. The Jets, for example, will not drop Sanchez to sign Manning, because Manning is 36 and comes without any guarantee that he will ever recover. The same goes for San Fran. The 49ers would prefer to develop in a QB under 30 rather than one over 30 with serious medical issues.

3: The Cardinals are the best suitors for Manning because of several different reasons. One, they have Skelton who was as effective in running the offense as Kolb. Dropping Kolb (who has medical concerns) for Manning is workable, because the Cardinals know what sort of production they can get from Skelton. Two, they play indoors and have a very veteran freindly enviorment. Three, who else really makes sense in regards to taking a risk on a guy that you have to sign in March, and won't know if he is healthy until Aug? Miami? Nope, if Manning isn't healthy, where do they go? Broncos? Nope. The Seahawks are the next best option, because they have Tavaris Jackson, but they have a bunch of free agents and might not have the money to gamble on Peyton.

Now, none of this is to say that Manning is coming to AZ. But, if released (as expected), I think that the Cardinals are the most likely team to gamble on Peyton if he decides to not retire (which looks to be the most likely option right now).

You may be right. I think a case could actually be made for several teams. I don't think money will be the deciding factor as Peyton has made a lot. I would like to see him on the Cards with Skelton as his backup.
