Colorado promising safety John Slaughter announced his plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Monday morning.

Slaughter transferred to Colorado following two seasons at Tennessee and played in 11 games, starting in three. He finished the year with 25 total tackles, 18 unassisted tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a quarterback hurry.

He was seen as the Buffs' starting safety of the future, along with Tawfiq Byard, who also plans on entering the transfer portal. Now, Deion Sanders' squad will be without both players and a completely different secondary.

Slaughter's announcement is a setback, given his age, but after a 3-9 season, any transfer portal departure is unsurprising.

He joins a vastly growing number of two-deep contributors who are set to depart when the portal officially opens on Jan. 2. As of Dec. 22, that group includes McPherson, wide receiver Omarion Miller, safety Tawfiq Byard, DT Jehiem Oatis, LB Mantrez Walker, and DT Brandon Davis-Swain, among others.
