Texas has its first transfer commitment of the cycle. Isaiah Johnson, former Colorado guard, has committed to the Longhorns and Sean Miller. The rising sophomore guard brings elite scoring ability to the table, replacing one of the three departing backcourt players.

Johnson comes into Texas coming off an impressive freshman campaign, averaging 16.9 points per game. Johnson is a prolific finisher at the hoop and shot 37.8% on 4.6 threes per game. He also averaged 3 assists per game and a steal per game for the Buffaloes, with more room to grow. He figures to be a strong replacement for fellow lefty guard Tramon Mark, being a prolific scorer at all three levels of the defense.

The Johnson addition is especially important with Matas Vokietaitis locked in to return to Austin. The pick-and-roll game between the two has the chance to be elite and lead the Longhorns offense. More pieces will obviously be added to this team but a Johnson-Vokietiatis duo could be lethal on the offensive end.

Johnson put up points against his toughest competition too.

On top of that, he still has three years of eligibility, meaning he could be a lynchpin of the Texas backcourt going forward. Regardless, it’s an incredibly strong start to the Longhorns portal class. With Swain, Pope, Mark and Weaver among others leaving, the work is far from over but this is a major addition.
