Troy is one of two schools in the College World Series making its first appearance in Omaha.

The Trojans were the No. 3 seed in the Gainesville Regional and fell behind 0-1 after a loss to Miami. They responded by winning four straight, defeating Rider, Miami and host No. 8 national seed Florida to take the regional. Troy then hosted a super regional for the first time in program history and swept Little Rock.

The Trojans are a team North Carolina could face in either the winners or losers bracket, so here’s a closer look at what they bring to Omaha.

Best Player

The Trojans are led by Sun Belt Player of the Year Troy Janicki, who is hitting .341 with 24 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs and 85 RBIs.

Other Players to Watch

INF Aaron Piasecki: .346 BA, 16 doubles, three triples, 10 HR, 48 RBI

RP Zach Crotchfelt: 3.50 ERA, 7-2 W-L, 61.2 IP, 74 K

SP Benjamin Stubbs: 4.93 ERA, 6-3 W-L, 91.1 IP, 83 K

Strengths

Troy is one of the better hitting teams in the College World Series. The Trojans led the Sun Belt in hits and doubles, both marks that rank in the top 10 nationally.

They also have shown the ability to hit for power. Troy ranks second in the Sun Belt and 26th nationally in home runs.

Weaknesses

The Trojans may not have the pitching depth to hold up in Omaha. Only two pitchers have an ERA below 4.60, and eight of the 11 pitchers who have appeared in at least 10 games this season have allowed more hits than innings pitched.
