Kickoff for the 2026 college football season is less than a month away.
North Carolina and TCU in Dublin, Ireland, and NC State-Virginia are the marquee Week 0 games Aug. 29 that will launch fans into the season before a full slate of games the following weekend in Week 1.
Before we get to the games, the release of preseason polls will occupy much of the ink and airwaves. The US LBM Coaches Poll is set to come out Tuesday, Aug. 4 and USA TODAY Sports, for the first time, will host a live reveal of the top 25 rankings on its YouTube channel.
LSU football fans can tune in to see if the Tigers, under new leadership with coach Lane Kiffin, will crack the preseason coaches poll. The Tigers open the 2026 campaign against Clemson for a highly-anticipated season-opening showdown Sept. 5 (6:30 p.m. CT, ABC) in Baton Rouge.

LSU finished the 2025 season unranked after going 7-6, including a loss to Houston in the Texas Bowl. Former coach Brian Kelly was fired during the season last year and Kiffin was officially hired Dec. 1.
Over the offseason, the program went through an overhaul of the roster as Kiffin and his staff brought in more than 40 transfers while 38 players decided to transfer out.
