Is anyone in the country hotter than Clara Strack? After Kenny Brooks challenged his star, Strack has responded in a now historic way. Take a look at her last 3 games:
South Carolina – 24 points, 9 rebounds
Arkansas – 20 points, 13 rebounds
Georgia – 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5/7 on 3s
That stat line against Georgia involves something not seen this century.
Clara Strack was on fire today
Nailing 5 3’s as a 6’5 big is insane. When Strack makes that shot, she is unguardable. But the problem was that not many other Cats could get their shots going. A day after Amelia Hassett had 6 3’s, she was 1-5 today. Tonie Morgan had just 2 points going into the 3rd, but she came alive, scoring 12 in the second half to become just the 3rd Kentucky player to reach double digits.
The Cats were down 1 at halftime, 36-35, but used the 3rd and fourth quarters to really pull away from a pesky Georgia team. Kentucky outscored the Bulldogs 41-25 in the 2nd half behind those 12 points from Morgan and 15 from Strack. Amelia Hassett scored all of her 7 points in the second half.
Teonni Key added 14 and 12 to set up a rematch with South Carolina.
In the previous game, it was a battle for 40 minutes. Kentucky had numerous chances to take the lead late but couldn’t, and South Carolina secured a 4-point win despite a season-low 60 points.
Kentucky will have 2 games on its legs, but these ladies are a special group, and they are right on the verge of being able to host the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Get a win tomorrow, and they will for sure!
SEC Network reports Kentucky WBB’s win today puts UK back at #16 on Charlie Creme’s projection, meaning the Cats would be back in position to host in the NCAA tourney
