Took the words right out of my mouth (or keyboard). He has shown that he can be a stud
Not good losing CJ. He ran hard for us.
I think his yardage was going down due to the Oline not making holes for him. He has been getting hit in the backfield as soon as he gets the ball. Or when he tries to bounce outside the Dline has pushed the Oline back so far there is nor oom to make the corner. It's the same pattern we have seen in the past. The opposition seems to figure out our blocking schemes and stuffs the holes or shoots the gap.

The bright side is the Cards can see what they really have in DJ, so they can better plan for next year.
I think Johnson with a dose of Williams and a sprinkle of Taylor will be just fine for the run game. As much grief as Cooper has caught here the run game has suffered since he has been out. Get him back and I think you will see a resurgence in the run game.
I have no problems with the ability of our rb's running and pass catching. It's the blitz pick-ups that freaks me out.
I think we will see a LOT of Stephan Taylor over these next few weeks. It's is an opportunity for him to make his mark on this team.

Blitz pickup is a problem but you won't learn that sitting on the bench.
The key is not to get Carson killed while he works out a few rookie mistakes he will make.
Just make sure Carson has a hair trigger when he blocks and a solid check down to get rid of it and let the kid try a few times and see if the gets any better as time goes on.
I realize now is not the best time to learn that but it can be managed if they sprinkle it in and are careful with it.

there were quotes from OC Harold Goodwin about how CJ kept trying to hit the homerun every time and ended up getting stuffed. They wanted him to take the 3/4 yards that were available to him instead of trying to get 15yds

INteresting, he wasn't doing that early in the year. He was taking the yards that were there.
I'm not sure I agree but Goodwin ought to know so it will be interesting to see if we see a difference although the Rams are the wrong defense to make a comparion with I suspect.

The vet on this squad now is Taylor. The guy who can pick up the blitz the best is Taylor. The guy who knows this offense the best with Duke and CJ out is Taylor. It is really about Taylor and not DJ. Taylor by no means is great and probably average but seriously, when has the dude had even a shot with a half decent line. And please do not tell me how he had not done squat after being handed the ball a paltry amount of times. Taylor is more physical than DJ, DJ is bigger and faster but sure the hell does not hit contact like Taylor... for better or worse the running back position is coming down to Taylor with the way this offense is run

I think it's DJ and Williams with Taylor getting spot duty in passing downs and maybe short yardage.
I think it's clear Taylor is on the active roster to play ST and do special things but Arians considers Williams to be a better actual RB.
I happen to think Taylor can do the job as a backup RB too, but Arians clearly doesn't.

And I am sure like you Russ, we both do not care as long as somebody can give this team some kind of running game... I just have a weird feeling that Taylor is going to end up being the guy and freaking succeed lol

I like the kid but it's clear arians doesn't think he's a RB, he's been bringing in guys to play RB since he got the job.
He's not flashy but he blocks, doesn't fumble, catches the ball and runs hard.
I just think Arians uses him on ST, and likes having him in as a blocker so on big plays he can slip him out for an easy 8 yard completion because teams are so sure he's staying in to block.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor gets used moving forward. He's excellent at blocking in the backfield, he's an excellent receiver, hits hard, and doesn't fumble. He was an absolute beast at Stanford. But there's a good reason why he lasted until the 5th round of the draft - at this level, he's s-l-o-w. Don't look for a burst. He'll get you the extra yard, he'll give you 110% on every play, but.. is limited.

I think Kulabafi has a chance to run the ball fairly well at the beginning of the game. I think the rams will suspect pass when he comes in, and could break a long one, up the gut on a draw/delay type play.
If there was ever a lunch pail RB on this team it's Taylor. Does is job to the best of his ability and never gives you less than that. I am hoping he gets 5-6 carries a game. I think he could prove to be the guy who will help the team chew time off the clock and at the very least put them in very manageable 3rd down situations that a defense will have to respect both the pass and the run on third down.

Dude is going to get more. I think DJ can be amazing, but he is a rookie and that means will take a while to get blitz packages down and even the Cardinals made a statement through players like Palmer about ball security when asked and the players saying there is not need to tell him because he knows what is expected of him, the translation is that he has ball security issues and the Rams like to strip the football... news flash, Taylor is solid for this offense and will play more than people are expecting!

Russ, respectfully that is not clear at all that Arians does not see him as a running back. Guys with speed like Ellington, DJ and CJ would put a lot of backs in the background because they have that big play ability Arians likes but Taylor is the come to reality back for Arians who is solid enough and I highly doubt he occupies this team because he is really good on ST because the dude is hardly Justin Bethel
