Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters recently to close mandatory minicamp. He shared a comedic response to offensive lineman Josh Simmons’ recent weight loss, featuring one of his favorite meals.
“Yeah, he’s (Josh Simmons) kind of a unique character because he’s not a real big guy. I mean, that’s not what he is, but he’s extremely strong and very athletic. So, you always talk about leverage as a coach, and he does a pretty good job with that, and I think that helps him,” said Reid. “He was able to function that way last year. I know he probably told you he’s going to put on weight; we’ll see. I don’t think that’s an absolute that that has to take place. He looked pretty good out here.”
The former Ohio State standout told reporters earlier in the week that he currently weighs 285 or 290 pounds. Reid made a unique comment about Simmons playing at different weights.
“You don’t want cheeseburger weight. That’s not what you want. You want him (Josh Simmons) to be able to function and maintain his endurance in that,” said Reid, “He’s extremely athletic, and he’s gifted that way, so I think he’s able to get away with some things because of that.”
The Chiefs selected Simmons in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, showing immediately why he deserved to be a day-one starter.
