Chiefs GM hints at potentially chaotic draft plan originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Kansas City Chiefs will be one team that eagerly watches the first handful of picks in the NFL Draft, given they hold the No. 9 overall pick.
Based on what transpires in front of the Chiefs, that could determine which way general manager Brett Veach and his team go with their selection.
Given the number of needs the Chiefs have to fill on both sides of the ball, no one knows which way the Chiefs will lean with their first pick.
And Veach knows that because of the team's needs, their first pick can go on any number of different players.
"I think it does open up that No. 9 pick to go in any one direction," Veach said via NFL.com. "Certainly, we'll see how the first five or six picks go. I think whether it's the defensive back field, the offensive line, edge rusher, receiver, again we need help in all of those areas.
"I do think that we will be in a position there to get one of those players and then add throughout the course of the draft. I think where we're at with our roster you can't eliminate any one need because there are a lot of them."

Who should Chiefs target?
That is up for debate, and with mock drafts coming thick and fast, each one has the Chiefs taking someone different.
With needs at receiver, offensive line, corner, and edge, Kansas City is open to anything and everything at No. 9. That makes it hard to really nail down what the franchise will do.
Will they take a corner like Mansoor Delane? Or Miami edge Rueben Bain Jr.? Maybe receiver Jordyn Tyson? All are legitimate options for the Chiefs.
And that is why you can't really narrow down on what the Chiefs are going to do, mainly because, as Veach stated, there are so many needs the franchise has to address.
