  • The Kansas City Chiefs used sourdough bread and baking puns to unveil their 2026 NFL schedule on social media
  • The theme referenced Taylor Swift's sourdough hobby and her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce
  • Fans and celebrities criticized the rollout, sharing on social media that they were left unimpressed

The Kansas City Chiefs officially entered their sourdough era.

While unveiling their 2026 NFL schedule, the Chiefs posted an unserious thread of statements on social media video featuring football-themed loaves of bread, baking puns and cryptic sourdough clues.

The thread packed with hints served as a playful nod to Taylor Swift's new sourdough obsession and her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The schedule reveal, shared on X, used decorated sourdough creations and baking-themed clues to hint at each of Kansas City’s upcoming opponents as part of the team’s annual NFL schedule announcement.

The sourdough connection comes straight from Swift and Kelce lore.

During an appearance on Travis' and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast last August, the couple joked about Swift's love of baking homemade sourdough bread.

The Kansas City Chiefs player said he's “lucky” to have been so active during Swift's new carb-filled hobby.

Naturally, the Chiefs leaned all the way in. However, the announcement left plenty of NFL fans unimpressed.

The post quickly sparked backlash online, with critics calling the thread “bad" and one of the "the most disappointing reveal ever."

Others complained the Chiefs were trying too hard to appeal to Taylor Swift fans instead of football audiences, while some admitted they had no idea what the sourdough clues even meant.

Next year can we have Andy, Brett, and Patrick be in charge of this too? Or ask the Chargers to do it for us? https://t.co/khZ1Vkxc0K

Even actor and Chiefs superfan Eric Stonestreet joined the pile-on. The Modern Family star reposted the thread with a sarcastic reaction, adding to the growing chorus of fans roasting the team's sourdough strategy online, in his post on X.

“Next year can we have Andy, Brett, and Patrick be in charge of this too? Or ask the Chargers to do it for us?,” Stonestreet said, referring to the team's coach, general manager and quarterback.

Last year, the Los Angeles Chargers went viral after releasing a Minecraft-themed schedule video packed with internet jokes and shots at rival teams.

The clip was widely praised online, with even Chiefs fans saying, “As a Chiefs fan....I watch this before I watched the Chiefs' release vid.”

The official schedule will be released on Thursday, May 14 and will include all of the NFL's 272 regular-season matchups, including primetime games.
