As you have likely heard, the Cubs signed Alex Bregman late last night. There will be much more on this here later today.
Here is the list of Cubs Convention attendees, which is apparently still in flux. David Ross may or may not appear. Several scheduled guests have withdrawn. Maybe we’ll get an update. If not, I’ll try to ferret it out.
Things are still mostly Cabrera with brief interludes of trade talk and player evaluation. There’s another huge haul of video. I’m tempted to just make playlists of these things and then just post that, like a baseball mixtape, if only to mollify the juco dj in me
Enjoy the music — the second post is a progressive rock playlist. It’s just there because it’s great, with a ton of obscure classics that some of you might remember from WXRT when they shared the frequency with Spanish-language programming. The first post is new Peter Gabriel, which is always a treat.

- Jordan Bastian (MLB.com*): With Cabrera on board, how does the Cubs’ rotation depth stack up? “There’s never enough pitching,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said,,,
- Austin Bloomberg (North Side Baseball*): All the Craig’s men: Cubs’ extreme rotation depth will yield more experimentation in 2026. “Expect to see Craig Counsell creatively make use of that depth, rendering a traditional five-man rotation more of an ideal than a reality.”
- Tom Domol (Cubs Insider*): Adding Bellinger, Bregman, or Bichette would make Cubs legit World Series contenders. “While both Bregman and Bellinger are represented by Scott Boras, the Cubs are not strangers to working with him.”
- Maddie Lee (Chicago Sun-Times* {$}): Cubs’ Tyler Austin to make MLB comeback after six seasons in Japan. “Austin will get his first introduction to the fan base Jan. 16-18 at the Cubs Convention.”
- Randy Holt (North Side Baseball*): Analyzing each scenario for the Cubs’ bench in 2026. “Much of the 2026 Cubs bench is spoken for. How might they handle what little wiggle room remains?“
