Chelsea given suspended transfer ban after spending £47 million in secret payments
The Premier League announced on Monday that a £10 million fine has been imposed on Chelsea along with a one-year suspended transfer ban.
The potential ban carries a suspended sentence of two years, meaning the blues can still register new players for the senior team if they do not commit further breaches.
The issue stems from reports from the current club owners (since 2022), who claim to have 'evidence of possible violations of the Premier League rules', according to the league's statement.
The investigation revealed that, between 2011 and 2018, under the leadership of Roman Abramovich, there were 'undeclared payments made by third parties associated with the club to players, unregistered agents, and other third parties'.
In addition, possible breaches of the 'Premier League Youth Development Rules' were scrutinized during the period from 2019 to 2022. As a result, the club has been penalised with a nine-month ban on registering youth players from the Premier League and the EFL and a fine of £750,000.
According to the statement, the Londoners have accepted the consequences, so 'all sanctions will take effect immediately, and the club will also bear all costs of the league's investigation and disciplinary proceedings'.
