It appears that the Chaz Coleman era at Tennessee is over before it could really get started, unfortunately for the Volunteers.
On Friday morning, it was reported by multiple outlets that Tennessee and the star Penn State EDGE transfer had officially parted ways, with Coleman being medically disqualified from the Volunteers' roster. Coleman, who transferred to Tennessee after a standout freshman year with the Nittany Lions, was absent from summer workouts last week in Knoxville, but did resurface this week before the parting of ways happened.
Coleman also missed the second half of Tennessee's spring season, which threw his status with the team into question.
“Chaz has been dealing with some things, and we’re here to support him,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel told On3 earlier this spring. “We’ll continue to go through that process.”
Coleman was among the headlining members of Tennessee's transfer portal class this offseason, after he left Penn State following the departure of former head coach James Franklin. As a freshman, Coleman only played in nine games, racking up eight tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
