Chaz Coleman will likely go down as one of the strangest stories in Penn State history. He came to the school as one of the top defensive prospects in the entire nation, but he was limited to nine games in his freshman season due to a tricky head injury that caused lingering issues.

Coleman entered the transfer portal at the end of the season, just one year after signing with the Nittany Lions, and joined the Tennessee Volunteers. The star edge rusher was considered the top player in the portal, but an undisclosed injury held him out of team activities for the past couple months and now the situation has reached its boiling point.

It was announced earlier today that Tennessee is cutting ties with Coleman, who has been medically disqualified from the team. While a specific explanation for his exit hasn’t been provided, some are speculating that he was dealing with homesickness on his new team.

Tennessee has parted ways with transfer edge Chaz Coleman, per sources. (On3 1st) It had been trending that way for awhile. @CBSSports broke down the complicated situation that led to Coleman being away from the Vols back in April. https://t.co/ai0YLXvYuSpic.twitter.com/zJkWdgV7IF

If those theories are true then perhaps there is a chance the Nittany Lions could win Coleman back. After all, he only left the school to follow his former defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. The four-star defender would be much closer to home if he returned and he would get welcomed back by some familiar faces.

Still just 19 years old, Coleman has plenty of time to rebuild his reputation and tap into the potential he possesses. Whatever is going on with him, let’s hope that he is able to heal mentally or physically and get back on the field, wherever that may be.
