The Chargers are set to host Texas Tech wide receiver Caleb Douglas on a private workout-meeting. Douglas will also do the same with the Raiders, Rams and Saints.
Douglas led Texas Tech in receiving yards (1,723) over the past two seasons and established himself as a key deep threat in the Big 12. He earned All-Big 12 second-team honors.
The Chargers are looking for an X-receiver to add to the positional room. Douglas is known as a deep-ball threat with a 79-inch wingspan and 4.39-second 40-yard dash speed.
Keenan Allen is still unsigned, and there's no guarantee he will return to LA. Moreover, McConkey is coming off a down year in which he failed to replicate his 1,000-yard rookie season, largely due to Allen's presence.
As for Johnston, there is speculation that the Chargers may trade the former first-round pick. All in all, the Chargers need another receiver, and perhaps the team will address the need via the NFL draft in April.
General manager Joe Hortiz was aggressive in his pursuit of top free agent receiver Alec Pierce, but he opted to remain with the Colts. Therefore, the Chargers could very well bolster the unit through the draft instead.
