When the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams share SoFi Stadium, media attention frequently tilts toward the blue-and-gold crown of the Rams. But for Chargers linebacker and Los Angeles native Daiyan Henley, the cross-town spotlight race is nothing to lose sleep over.
Appearing on the "Up & Adams" show during Chargers training camp, the Crenshaw High School alum said that the upcoming Week 8 showdown isn't just another game on the schedule—it's personal. Asked if he knew when the Chargers were set to host their stadium co-tenants, Henley didn't hesitate.
"It's penciled... because I'm from here! It's home," Henley emphasized. "I have some family who think they're Rams fans," Henley joked. "Delusion still lives within, so I have to wake 'em up."
However, he brushed off suggestions that the constant hype surrounding the Rams is a source of frustration.
"I don't find it to be irritating, because at the end of the day, you just got to show people what it really is," Henley said. "We get that opportunity this year."
While both franchises have shared the nation's second-largest media market since 2017, their regular-season paths have rarely crossed, as the Rams are in the NFC and the Chargers are in the AFC.
The teams have met only twice in the regular season since relocating back to Southern California. The Rams earned a 35-23 victory in 2018 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, but the Chargers responded with a dominant 31-10 win on January 1, 2023, in their sole regular-season matchup inside SoFi Stadium. Across 13 all-time meetings, the Rams hold a razor-thin 7-6 series edge.
