Celtics Reportedly Could Pivot By Trading Jaylen Brown For This Star Forward originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
So, what's next for the Celtics and Jaylen Brown?
Boston came up short in its pursuit of a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, with the Milwaukee Bucks sending the star forward to the Miami Heat. The Celtics reportedly offered Brown for Antetokounmpo, and numerous reports indicate they're still committed to trading him.
On Monday night, Kevin O'Connor reported Boston could have its sights set on New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.
"I would expect, from my conversations with people around the league, that Boston is going to continue trying to trade Jaylen Brown," O'Connor said during his podcast. "Giannis was simply Plan A. What is Plan B? I don't know exactly. I would think that Boston is in on Trey Murphy."
Murphy might not be on Brown's level, but he's a great player in his own right.
A first-round pick in 2021, Murphy averaged 15.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists over the last five seasons in New Orleans. He's coming off a career-best season, averaging 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 38% from 3-point range.
Murphy turned 26 years old last Thursday, so he'd enable Boston to get younger at small forward. However, the Celtics likely would want more than just Murphy in a trade involving Brown.
