Anaheim, Calif. — Tigers starter Casey Mize came out of the game in the fourth inning Sunday.

Angels’ Jo Adell hit a ball up the middle, 108.8 mph off the bat. Mize corralled in his midsection and made the play at first. But the ball apparently clipped him on his left, non-pitching hand.

Drew Anderson was summoned into a 1-1 game.

The entire day had been a struggle for Mize. He’d thrown 74 pitches and was just one out into the fourth inning.

He had four strikeouts but the Angels had scored a run on five hits with a walk.

There was no immediate announcement on the injury.
