Not putting together a competitive team IS INTENTIONALLY TANKING. YOU CAN'T WIN IN THE NFL WITH A CRAP ROSTER.
You think they are intentionally putting together an uncompetitive team?

If that was the case why would they sign any free agents? Would be a lot better to spend as little as possible.

Do you not remember we were in every game for the first 8 weeks of the season last year and legit could have won them all? This is still mostly the same team. I don't think a crap roster is capable of doing that.

You are acting like a crazy person because Monty didn't sign a guy for $25 million a year who has started 2 meaningful games.

It’s the NFL. No team loses every game 30-3.

Even then, you’re looking at a team that is closer to the one that went 3-13 and played truly execrable football finishing the season on an 11-game losing streak than the one that hung tough against the juggernaut Titans and Saints.

Starting with the signal caller. Jacoby Brissett is a huge loser. Has been his entire career. His NC State team went 7-6 and lost to Louisville.

Explain. At this point what else were you expecting.
The big disappointment for most was the failure to sign Willis and not everybody is disappointed with that.
Minshew is a back up and much better than Slovis.
Algiers fills a big need without knowing if Connor is still Connor.
Bourne is an upgrade over Jones.
We added to the o-line with what most media rated him a top guard.

I still think we should and can do more. But we’ve done worse in free agency.
Our starting QB is Jacobi Brissett. He is a career back-up and is 34 years old.

We've also just signed a bunch of guys to effectivley one year deals.

These aren't the moves of a team looking to compete.

To think that teams will actually purposely tank in the NFL is ludicrous. These players are professionals and to tell me they go out there everyday and beat the crap out of one another taking on long term body damage to purposely lose are thoughts of an all pro Armchair GM/Coach. Teams aren't going to jeopardize the morale of the rest of the team to for the hopes of getting one guy. That is a loser mentality, and if a team is that way, then why would anyone want to be a fan and support that way of business. They will never win.
Agree to disagree.

agree...most players will not tank...competitors have their pride, especially when its all they have left.
However, organizations can tank... collusion between the GM and ownership to lowball potential free agents and bring in system mismatches on short term deals in order to manufacture a higher draft pick next year.

agree. we have some talent. We have talent that was better than their record last year.
something happened last year...the psyche of the team went to crap, then injuries started piling up, losses started piling up,...business decisions started taking priority..the team was broken. But it wasnt without talent.... however, we still need stars..game changers, game breakers.... Stouts ever needed...."Big Johnsons"

It’s the same formula we used in 2023… come off an absolutely horrific season, go into the season with a career journeymen as the starting QB, sign some mediocre-ish players to one year to two year deals… and the kicker… have the 3rd pick in the draft that everyone expects us to trade down from.

Can’t wait to see if we can replicate the same level of results in 2026 that we did in 2023!

So what your saying is that we should spend money on a different starting QB so we can go 5-12 instead of 3-14 and miss out of drafting a top QB in 2027?

Explain that to me.
That’s not what I’m saying. Try to keep up. Personally I’m all for the tank. But if you’re talking about whether they could have improved team or not, they absolutely could have. They didn’t. And I’m also saying that any organization that allows a GM to tank two of four seasons and keep him employed is a stupid organization.

You are right that players absolutely will never tank. Front offices and owners can, though, and they put together the team. Look at the Jets. They are in worse shape than the Cardinals.

Not saying that tanking is necessarily what is happening, but it is a possibility.

Without Cousins the Falcons were 3-6 with that juggernaut of talent you are describing.

This is your argument.

In 2025 the Falcons were 5-3 with Cousins and 3-6 without Cousins, but Cousins was 5-3 because of the roster. That is a truly stupid argument.

I believe I already said that Penix sucks. Cousins just sucked slightly less.

What do you find so attractive about his 174 YPG and 84 passer rating?

What if...and bear with me here, the Cardinals added more players than just a QB?

So your argument is that the Cards should go out and splash resources to try to make up for Cousins obvious deficiencies so that we can get a couple of more wins in an already dead year?

Yes, this is not a team looking to compete because we have no QB.

This should really have been clear, some people seem to have had odd expectations.

Well firstly, I'd argue they have improved the team and it's like Day 2 of FA and no draft yet. So this is highly premature.

Second, we didn't tank in 2023. I'm not sure why people are confused by this. Our highly paid starting QB was out with an ACL tear for 9 games. The new regime came in and discovered that McCoy was cooked in camp and had to sign someone 3 weeks before the season opener.

I don't know what people expect to happen when your QB is out injured? As soon as he was able they brought him back and we were a last second missed FG away from 4-4 when he returned. That's not the behavior of a tanking team. That's just a team with their QB out.

There's an argument that Bidwill should have know McCoy was cooked and told the new regime to bring someone else in when there were more options. They could have maybe brought in Brissett, Heinicke, Mariota or Dalton. Maybe then win a couple more games. But it's splitting hairs.

There simply wasn’t a sure thing choice at QB. Why waste limited resources on a QB gamble? Scouts are divided on Simpson, but likely a reasonable option if he can be secured at the right cost. The Cards seem focused on fixing the Oline. If they can get one of the top tackles in FA, they can go BPA or Simpson if they can trade down or up. BTW they Lopez signing has been well received by evaluators. I didn’t see much of his play last season, but those that did say he’s really improving agains the run and collapsing the pocket.
