I'm speculating but given his situation before the draft it's entirely possible that there are clauses in his deal that allow us to cut him and regain money if certain things, like a DUI, happen?
I assumed we'd cut him as soon as I read about the DUI, because I assumed he probably had a clause in his contract he'd violated.

Maybe part of why the players really like Floyd is they knew he had a problem and were rooting for him to be able to get past it?
My guess is that part of why this is different than Massie, Dwyer or Abraham is quite simple. We drafted a kid who had been in trouble with the law over alchohol 3 times by the time he was 21 years old, and had nearly been kicked out of ND(by rule he was supposed to be he violated their honor code 3 times).
So my guess is his contract has always had terminology in it about standards he had to live up to and the DUI violated that.
I don't think we drafted Massie knowing he had issues with alcohol, and Dwyer and Abraham were FA's so probably wasn't in their contract since they weren't long contracts anyways.
I'm guessing the reason Floyd is being treated differently is contractual
FWIW, if Stallworth had run the guy over but been sober, there would've been no jail time. IIRC the guy ran out in the middle of the road from behind another car.

If we were in the running for the NFC West crown and a playoff push, I wonder if they still would have cut him..
Likely, that would've meant that Floyd wouldn't have had so many mental cramps, dropped passes, and ran the correct routes.
Floyd was part of the problem this season, far from the solution.

Little killed a lady and I don't think he missed much football at all...and to make matters worse the husband of the woman he killed was a game photographer for the Rams and he had to come up with an agreement that he never had to include Little in any game photos.

I don't think it's fair to compare Massie and Abraham to Floyd. Each case is unique. As for Floyd, we don't know what else has been going on this season. There is a TON of speculation that the unrest and angst in the locker room has Floyd's fingerprints all over it. But in truth, we really don't know. I think it's way out of line and extremely short-sighted to paint this in a negative manner toward BA. You don't know what the conversations were with Keim and Mike B. For all we know, either of those two could've order the kill-shot and BA was left to pull the trigger.

I'm fine with Mitch having his own opinion on it. Where I disagree was his bringing up Butler as an example of a double standard. Being a lousy punter and getting the 3rd DUI and 4 alcohol releated arrest of your life are not even REMOTELY comparable.
Butler isn't a good punter but what Floyd did goes way beyond the field.
Hopefully we stand by him to get the help he needs if he wants it, but cutting him to me is clearly the right decision.

we kind of DO know what's going on behind the curtain a little bit. just listen to the players comments on floyd being cut. they are all shocked and most defend him.

Im sure they are shocked, what teammate wouldnt be? There one day and gone the next, thru no fault of his own. I have yet to hear a player throw blame at or criticize the organization for the act of cutting floyd. Speculation among the fanbase is running rampant.
I don't know why so many people are shocked by this. We all knew that after the terrible season that Floyd was having he was not coming back. The minute that I heard this happened I knew he was a goner. The season is over so there really isn't a need to keep him on the team. Might as well make an example out of him.

Yeah, im having a hard time understanding the puke and vitriol towards BA and the staff, along with the overgeneralization of the roster and prior incidences with other players. Bottom line: He was playing like crap, he wasn't going to be back next season, and he has a history of this behavior.

I've heard it on the radio a few times and just this morning, Wolf "speculated" about this very topic... As for the players being supportive of Floyd, is that really a surprise?? Seriously?? They were supportive of Abraham as well... and Massie. Hell, players have been supportive of PacMan Jones, Burfict and so many others. They're family and it would be extremely rare for fellow teammates to slam a family member in the media.

For Fitz, face of the franchise to make that statement carries big weight with me.

Cards Underground from YESTERDAY speculated that Floyd would be back because his price had gone down so much. And it was Calvisi, who is even less independent than Somers.
Wolf will do whatever he can to deflect criticism of the front office and coaching staff.
We will see. I hope this kid gets his act together. I like Floyd.
The locker room seems to be upset with the coaching staff these days. Double standards for players and coaches. Calling out players in public. Then the Floyd cut. This is the icing on the cake. I still don't know why they didn't hold him for at least a compensatory pick.

Should have titled this thread, "Cards Cut Cheese!" That is what I have been saying about this pick ever since we spent a high first on him. Another "What were they thinking" moment. God, I wish I wasn't right about our draft picks so often.
