The St. Louis Cardinals are fully committed to rebuilding, and have totally blown up their team. One place they haven’t blown up is the manager, as Oliver Marmol heads into his fifth season with the team.
FanSided’s Jake Elman believes that if the Cards decide to move on from their skipper as well, they might not have to look far for a replacement. He predicts St. Louis can call on a former legend that played for the team and currently works for them in Yadier Molina, who’s currently Venezuela’s manager in the World Baseball Classic.

“We saved our third and final reunion for last, but for good reason. Molina is currently a special assistant under president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, and he’s managed internationally in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League and Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League. Sometimes, the fit is simply obvious: Molina remains a beloved figure among Cardinals fans with managerial experience. Besides, it’s not like players-turned-managers don’t succeed if they join their former teams. The Dodgers brought Dave Roberts back, and he’s won three titles over his 10 years as manager. Boone isn’t perfect, though he’s regularly made the postseason with the Yankees. Mark Kotsay has kept the Athletics afloat and competent amid a disastrous few years. What’s stopping Molina from being next up to thrive?,” Elman wrote.
Currently, Venezuela is doing great in the WBC, making it to the semifinals and playing undefeated Italy tonight. If they were to win, and somehow beat the U.S. in the finals, St. Louis might have to really consider switching leadership.

Molina would satisfy fans immensely as he was a favorite back in the day, and he has tons of experience with success. The man has won two World Series, was an All-Star ten times, and a Gold Glove nine times.
With that in mind, Molina could help craft their young core into a true contender. If the Cards are smart, they’ll let him know immediately if they decide to part ways with Marmol.
