Deflating news. I heard about it and immediately thought that Aaron Rodgers will be our starting QB next season.

EPA/play is a good way of measuring an OC over a large period of time. Extremely bad everywhere outside of Green Bay. Very glad he isnt calling plays.
Or does that show when he had a good QB?

This to me is the benefit of your HC being the OC. Hackett is familiar with his brother as a rookie HC and has lots of experience. He will be a well needed crutch for MLF as he grows as a HC. I hate A Rodger’s but he would be fun with our receivers and TE

Man, guys on this board are really making Hackett feel welcome here and the new coach appreciated. Brutal.
As we should after the crap show we have seen for the last decade.

Zero quarter will be given to this team. They deserve nothing from this fanbase until they prove they want and can win.

Reading about him he tends to have good run games but really only had a good passing game with Rodgers. But look at the list of QB's he had other than Rodgers, not very good.

He actually replaced Mike LaFleur with the Jets after Saleh got fired and Mike went with him.

not thrilled but if he can improve the run game I will be happy

Exactly, outside of having prime Aaron Rodgers, his resume is lacking…Sounds like Belichick without Brady lol

There are less options, but still a bunch of options.

Which OC from a team that hired would you want that would come?

The only option I see here is Slowik, but he's not coming to not call plays. Neither is McDaniel.

1) Titans: Brian Daboll
2) Chargers: Mike McDaniel
3) Chiefs: Eric Bieniemy
4) Lions: Drew Petzing
5) Dolphins: Bobby Slowik
6) Commanders: David Blough
7) Falcons: Tommy Rees
8) Bucs: Zac Robinson
9) Bills: Pete Carmichael
10) Ravens: Declan Doyle
11) Eagles: Sean Mannion
12) Giants: Matt Nagy
13} Steelers: Some Italian guy I never heard of from the Viks

Who've we missed out on?
Sean Payton just fired Joe Lombardi. From The Athletic:
Then, when Payton fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who had worked for him across 15 seasons, Lombardi did not go quietly.

"I think you could tell (Payton) was in one of those moods where he felt like some changes needed to be made, and I guess he decided one of those was me," Lombardi told the Denver Gazette. "So, I've been around him long enough to kind of read the tea leaves, I guess."

The reference to "one of those moods" stems from Payton's reputation for reacting explosively to associates in the moment, then backing off later. Except this time, there was no backing off.

Not great, but LaFleur calling plays. EXPERIENCE.
Comparison with our previous OC's PPG.

2023 (AZ) 24th
2024 (AZ) 12th
2025 (AZ) 23rd

I have to notice that our 2024 offense with very middling play from Kyler scored a better relative PPG than the Packers did in 2019 with prime Aaron Rodgers.

That last Jets season with fully healthy Rodgers is some of the worst offense coordinating in NFL history. Rogers with Davante Adams, Garret Wilson, Breece Hall, and frankly a fine OL, being the same relative PPG as our Dobbs season and worse than our 32 players on IR season. Rodgers wasnt in his prime at this point but as we saw last season he still has plenty left in the tank. 2022 Broncos was actually the worst OC job in NFL history (if they had scored 18 points ppg they would won 9 games), but I'll give him a pass because he had headcoaching duties as well.

His big brother has proved that Hackett wont sink the ship by himself, but you can tell that he will never be the type of OC to actually be creative and contribute to changing how the offense is designed year over year. Hackett will never be the type of OC that Mike was to McVay on the Rams. His past headcoaching experience should be valuable to Mike.

One thing that the PHNX crew mentioned today is that the OC gig is not going to be very appealing due to MLF wanting to handle play calling. So this likely factored into the Hackett hire.

Context is important though.

He didn't call him the worst coach in sports history.

He said the job he did in his time in Denver was "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL"
