The St. Louis Cardinals have claimed a former New York Yankees prospect off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

The 25-year-old hit .225/.284/.438 with four home runs and a .722 OPS in 27 games this season with the White Sox.

On Thursday, the NL Central club announced that outfielder Everson Pereira has joined the organization.

Pereira is out of options and will need a spot on the active roster when he reports to the Cardinals.

As a former Yankee farmhand, Pereira was ranked as high as New York's sixth top prospect in 2023, ahead of right-handers Will Warren and Luis Gil.

The skillset that made him a highly touted player has not translated into Major League success.

Since his initial MLB promotion in 2023, Pereira has bounced back and forth between Triple-A and the Majors, appearing in 77 games with the Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and White Sox.

He's stepped up to the plate 264 times and managed to record an underwhelming .172/.246/.290 slash line with six homers and a .536 OPS in those opportunities.
