SPRINGFIELD--Tai Peete has been with the Springfield Cardinals for exactly eight days, but the No. 10 prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system is already making his mark.
Through his first six games with the Baby Birds, the 21-year-old outfielder is batting leadoff with a .292 average, 5 runs scored and 7 hits, including a double and triple.
But it's no surprise Peete is quickly finding his footing at the AA level. Before coming to Springfield, Peete spent 42 games with Single-A, Peoria, where he posted a .300 average and hit for the cycle, not once, but twice!
"I think when I did the first a couple months ago, it was like ok that was pretty cool," said Springfield Cardinals outfielder, Tai Peete. "It was everything I thought it was gonna be. It was cool, but the second one it just kinda happened. I don't really think about it too much. The first one's cool, the second one...you only need to do it once."
In his short time with the Cardinals, Peete has noticed a key difference with his peers at this level, compared to the one he was promoted from.
"Only difference is the guys up here do it a lot more consistent," Peete said. "I think you just have to be more consistent. Things like your routine, your approach has to be on point. You can't miss a day, so I think the hardest part is just coming to the field and being the same guy."
The level of focus and dedication from his peers is why Springfield's roster boasts five of the top-10 prospects in the Cardinals farm system, Peete included, and he's in awe of the talent surrounding him.

"It's honestly a blessing just being able to be on the field with everyone here. and watching Doyle throw and Rainiel up to bat. We're all having fun, we're all enjoying it."
Off the field, Peete says he's just a simple, guy, but when it comes to food he's got a appetite for suishi, but a love/hate relationship with bread.
"Fun fact, I never finish bread. I don't know why. If I eat a sandwich, there'll be like a little piece of sandwich left, I don't know why. I just I can't see myself eating bread, finishing it off. Pizza's not bad. I'm a sushi guy, but Missouri sushi is like...I just came from Florida, I just did a rehab in Florida, so being there, I was just downing sushi like it was nothing."
Peete may play baseball for a living, but he's also a pretty good bowler, too, and is interested in getting into another widely popular game.
"Outside the game, I bowl. I bowl a lot. I bowled a 256 in Spring Training in Arizona, and then, in the offseason I bowl with my dad. My highest in a row, I bowled 11 strikes in a row."
At the moment, Springfield leads the Texas League North standings, for the second half of the season, by five games. If they can hold onto their lead, they'll qualify for the postseason for a fourth consecutive season, and have a chance to defend their Texas league title.
