The Washington Capitals and John Carlson have been together for a long time.

The big defenseman is in the final year of his contract, though, which at least raises the question of what might be next for him.

Sounds like there's nothing to worry about.

The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported this in a new article on Wednesday:

"The Washington Capitals continue talks with John Carlson on a new contract. Neither side is concerned, and Carlson isn’t too interested in playing elsewhere."

Carlson is currently in the final year of an eight-year, $64 million contract that paid him $8 million exactly in each season.

Now 36 years old, Carlson is in his 17th season with the Capitals.

Through the Olympic break, Carlson has played 1,143 NHL games for the Caps. He has 166 goals and 605 assists (771 points) to go with 2,179 blocked shots and 944 hits.

This season, Carlson has 10 goals and 36 assists (46 points) in 55 games.

Carlson's tenure with Washington includes a Stanley Cup championship, too.

The Capitals took him way back in the 2008 NHL Draft with the 27th overall pick. That has certainly worked out nicely.

His next deal certainly won't pay him as much as his current contract did, but Carlson definitely still gets the job done out on the ice, and it's gotta be reassuring for Capitals fans to know that Carlson has no intention of ending up anywhere else.
