Expect the Chicago Bears to begin their roster cuts this week to trim their salary cap figure which currently exceeds the cap by $5.3 million. The names to watch and the $$ saved:

Tremaine Edmunds ($15 mil)
Cole Kmet ($8.4 mil)
D’Andre Swift ($7.5 mil)
Tyrique Stevenson ($3.6 mil)
Cairo Santos ($2.6 mil)
Josh Blackwell ($2.2 mil)
Amen Ogbongbemiga ($2 mil)
Roschon Johnson ($1.1 mil)

These won’t all be cut (Kmet and Santos appear safe) but the Bears could create $40 million in cap space with cuts alone.

Trading Murray and Brissett combined with cuts of Nichols, SMB and Connor(not sure I would in his case) gets the cards to approximately $100 million in space.

WR Michael Pittman Jr. could be a cap casualty for the Colts this offseason, per
@RomeovilleKid & @TheAthletic
Pittman carries a $29M cap hit in '26. With Alec Pierce emerging on a team that leans on Jonathan Taylor & Tyler Warren, moving on could free up roughly $24M in space.

If we could snag Pittman, and somehow get a serviceable QB, our offense would be scary good.

I'd be legitimately shocked if they cut Swift. Monangai isn't good enough to carry that backfield, and there aren't enough good RBs in this draft class to try to supplant him.

Kmet makes sense as a cut since they have an out and would carry very little dead cap, with Colston Loveland establishing himself as the starter. Kmet's probably good enough to be a higher-end starter somewhere in the league though, obviously not a fit for us.

I don't see him coming to a team to be the 4th option. He'll get a decent payday if he's released on a team that could give him a lot of reps... like Washington.

If Pittman came here he would not be the 4th option. Heck he could be #2.

NFL RUMORS

#Patriots star WR Stefon Diggs is a release candidate because New England can opt out of his contract

New England could save $20M in cap space.

: Saints star RB Alvin Kamara, who has a $18.6M cap hit, could be a potential cut candidate for New Orleans, writes @MattOkada
“The Saints likely haven’t found their future at the position yet but with a cap hit of $18.6 million, their vision probably shouldn’t involve Kamara. Cutting him before June 1 only frees up $360,000, so he’s an excellent candidate for a post-June 1 designation, but either way, 2026 should be the first season in nearly a decade without the Pro Bowl back in the Bayou.”

: The Kansas City Chiefs are likely to release standout OT Jawaan Taylor in the coming weeks.

Releasing Taylor would save them $20 million in cap.

The 28-year-old veteran will be in high demand.

#Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle reportedly told the Dolphins front office “me next” after the release of Bradley Chubb and Tyreek Hill.

Things are not looking good in Miami.

Are we able to just claim a player like this rather than let him hit the open market?

Strap in boys, unless I am really wrong, it's gonna get ugly over the next couple months. It's gonna be hilarious watching Monti cut the guys he signed because they have underperformed only to give himself more money to sign guys who will also likely suck. My predictions...

Kyler - cut
Conner - cut
Nichols - cut
Browning - cut
SMB - cut
ADG - cut

Not sure about Brissett or Dalvin. Some people are putting Zaven's name out there, but I don't see it.

Brissett should have trade value, though I'd rather they kept him as a short-term starter and mentor to a young QB.
It all depends if they would rather use the 5-7 mil saved to sign a different vet or multiple vets that MLF wants. I don't think Brissett holds much trade value.

I can't agree with that. MHJ isn't so certainly a bust that we're demoting him to the #2 or #3 WR role. And after Michael Wilson just emerged on the scene, you're not demoting him either. Trey McBride remains the #1 option.

Giving a big contract to Pittman would almost be a guarantee we're calling MHJ an unmitigated bust.

Yes. It’s never going to happen.

But...
The dude already got paid. He got his big signing bonus... now he can go to a team for different reasons if he so chooses.
Like a team his daddy used to play for. Where he is a legacy.
He might not. For some guys one bag ain't enough...
But...buuuut... Marvin, another NFL Legacy...isn't exactly entrenched as WR1...which means a dude with talent and mad skills could come in and supplant him with a bit of effort...so he don't get a new bag but he gets to shore up the Pittman legacy and be the guy that forced #3 overall pick son of an NFL legend into a WR2/slot role instead of the WR1/superstar role he was destined for....he can play the spoiler so to speak.
I'm sure he will have a chip since his team is openly and obviously choosing Peirce over him.

Dude is a baller. Plenty of reasons why he might want to be a Cardinal.... but not as many reasons why the Cardinals might want him...he is another guy that would clutter the intermediate depth on the field...crowding Marv, MikeWilly, and McBride...
We need a dude just a little faster..unless Coach Flower intends to run a full WC style offense
