New Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is reportedly receiving interest from a Canadian Football League team after he dropped to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders' draft slide was the talk of the football world over the weekend.
The former Colorado star and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year was widely believed to be one of the top quarterbacks in the class behind Miami's Cam Ward, who went to the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick.
But it was Saturday before Sanders heard his named called. And it's not clear why so many teams ultimately chose not to take a chance on Sanders.
Some have cited character concerns after Sanders – the son of NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders – garnered some bad reviews from pre-draft meetings with NFL personnel.
And others pointed to Sanders' decisions to not participate in on-field work at the Shrine Bowl, NFL combine and the Big 12's pro days as a poor move.

Regardless of his draft situation, Sanders has his NFL opportunity in Cleveland after the Browns took a chance with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round.
And the Toronto Argonauts have reportedly opened the door for Sanders to join the CFL, according to a report from Dave Naylor of TSN.
The Argonauts' decision gives the team the first shot at Sanders if he decides to take the CFL path.
While Sanders is eventually expected to do so, he has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Browns. The 6-foot-1.5, 212-pound quarterback is expected to sign a deal worth approximately $4.6 million with a $446,553 signing bonus, according to Spotrac.
Sanders certainly has his work cut out for him in Cleveland if he wants to take over the starting role.
The Browns return both Deshaun Watson, although he is out indefinitely after re-tearing his Achilles in the offseason, and 40-year-old veteran Joe Flacco. Kenny Pickett was acquired from the Eagles in a trade, and Cleveland drafted Oregon's Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
"Obviously you may not divide (practice reps) 25, 25, 25, but we feel really confident that we'll have a plan that is fair to each player and fair to the team as well," head coach Kevin Stefanski said after the draft.
