While the roars and jeers of the Florida State football faithful inside Doak Campbell Stadium are still months away, the future of the Seminoles' program is being constructed.

The dog days of summer are often the most important for the health and status of collegiate football programs, with recruiting taking center stage.

For the Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell, it's an important period for the program to load up talent and make their intentions known to top prospects on recruiting boards. It's also a time for Norvell and his staff to take a pulse check and see where FSU stands in the hearts of the next generation of collegiate stars after seven wins in two seasons.

The struggles on the field have compounded recruiting frustrations from fans, which have been persistent long before the 2-10 season in 2024. The Seminoles inked the 17th overall recruiting class in 2026, and that includes talent like defensive back Chuck Kennon, linebacker Izayia Williams, and two-sport athlete Jasen Lopez.

Can any of those players have the same impact on the program that freshmen twins Darryll and Mandrell Desir had in 2025? It's not out of the realm of possibility. How about the class of 2027, and what else is needed to bolster a currently 57th-ranked national class?

Let's take a look.

A mixed bag so far for FSU football on the recruiting trail

It's not that the class of 2027 lacks talent, especially with recent pickups like 4-star wide receiver Sean Green. But the Seminoles have had a mixed bag on the recruiting trail, with a few misses and decommitments that have hampered the class.

Top prospect in the class, 4-star Mekhi Williams (No. 12 in the Florida Top 100), who had been committed to the program for months, flipped to Wisconsin. Other top prospects in the class, 4-star defensive back Jaylan Scott and 4-star defensive back Bryce Williams (No. 26 in Florida Top 100), have also departed the recruiting class.

All three play in the secondary, and their departure does hurt the overall health of the class, but the Seminoles have worked hard with 4-star defensive back Ta'Shawn Poole, a top-100 player in the class out of Macon, Georgia's Howard. Poole's commitment would be major, and could help FSU maintain recent momentum built on the recruiting trail.

The program has landed six commitments in June, led by Green and 3-star wide receiver Majay Thompson, and is in a favorable position to earn commitments from Poole and 4-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune from Poplarville, Mississippi. LeJeune is a consensus 4-star and is ranked just outside the top-100 of the 247Sports composite rankings.

Both play positions of need for the program, and would be massive recruiting wins for FSU, should the commitments officially happen and stick through signing day. The Seminoles current class has talent, including fast-rising quarterback Logan Flaherty (No. 81 in Florida Top 100) and 4-star running back Jayden Miles, but there is more to be done

The Seminoles will, and should, heavily push for the commitments of Poole and LeJeune, but the two prospects have to be followed by players of a similar talent level. FSU is targeting the likes of 4-star interior offensive lineman DaJohn Yarborough, from Basha in Chandler, Arizona, and he would be a big commitment in both size at 6-foot-5 and 340 pounds, and in ranking.

He is a top target and is the type of player that the Seminoles need to fill the class out with if the program is going to revive itself.
