The Seattle Seahawks have a preseason battle for the second-string interior offensive line spots in their room, and although Mason Richman was drafted 234th overall last year with the goal of shoring up the group’s tackle depth, he has a chance to compete on the interior in the 2026 preseason.
Little is expected of Richman as a seventh-round pick who played just one snap last season. Also in the competition is Bryce Cabeldue, who was drafted 192nd overall- 42 picks higher- in the same draft. Cabeldue also primarily played tackle during college, but the Seahawks moved both to guard last season. It didn’t get him on the field any more, as he only saw 24 total snaps. The Seahawks clearly didn’t feel great about getting either on the field as rookies, even with the occasional injuries to Grey Zabel and Anthony Bradford. It seems like Christian Haynes is still ahead of them on the depth chart. He was the first replacement for Bradford yesterday during OTAs. Oh, and the team also drafted Beau Stephens with the hopes he’ll be better than all three current options.
The roster currently has Richman and Cabeldue behind Haynes and Stephens going into the preseason guard battle. In that case, they are likely practice squad candidates at this point. That does mean at least some cause for optimism, though, as Richman is one of the players who will have the most to prove and the least to lose during the entire preseason. He might register the most snaps of anyone at the position group over those three games.
