Any win that the New York Yankees can get right now without Aaron Judge should be viewed as a positive one. Unfortunately, the Yankees slugger is expected to be out for quite some time, and that should have a major impact on this roster.

The harsh reality is that the Yankees will be a very different team without Judge on the roster, but they still have some very talented players, including some of the better starters in Major League Baseball.

The Yankees are really going to need some of their starting pitchers to step up in a massive way, and that was the case for them on Sunday afternoon, as right-hander Cam Schlittler threw the baseball at a very high level once again. Sure, he only threw 5.2 innings, but allowed just four hits, one earned run, and struck out five in a 6-1 win against the Boston Red Sox.

Schlittler has had some very good starts throughout the year, but he's also had some strange ones where he doesn't throw the baseball as well as everybody would be hoping for. That included his last outing against the Cleveland Guardians prior to this one, when he allowed four earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings. Searching for ways to bounce back, he knew that he needed to be better, and the 25-year-old certainly was.

“I think the velo was there,” Schlittler said, per MLB.com. “The movement was a little bit better. I was still a little sloppy with strike percentage [63%], but definitely better than last week. That’s all I can really take from that, and hopefully it improves next week as well.”

More importantly, the Yankees understand that things will be tougher without Judge on the roster. So he's even admitted that he needs to put his team in a position to win games without his MVP candidate playing, adding that he expects him to be back soon and that he knows other guys are going to step up impressively for him.

“I’m just trying to go out there and approach all these starts to put us in position to win,” Schlittler said. “It’s tough to lose an MVP, but he’ll be back soon, and I expect the other guys will be able to come through.”
