Caitlin Clark is back to competing on the WNBA hardwood after her 2025 season was entirely derailed by soft tissue injuries. Since returning, Clark has been honest about the mental hurdles of returning to action after the injury troubles.
“Coming back from injury and having however many soft tissue injuries [in 2025] is a real mental challenge,” Clark said last week.
On Tuesday, the Indiana Fever superstar was asked by reporter James Boyd about using a sports psychologist.
“Yeah, it’s definitely just part of what I do. I mean, I think it’s a great thing. I think any high-performing athlete would tell you, you know, you wouldn’t be able to perform at that level without it. And if a high-performing athlete doesn’t have one, well, I mean, that’s pretty impressive,” Clark said.
#Fever star Caitlin Clark on having a sports psych:
“You have the human side to balance, and then you have the performance side, and you’re trying to deal with both, and at times it can be a lot. So, I think it’s maybe the most important thing that I have as part of my team …” pic.twitter.com/WOJUvp2vn4

“So, um, I think it’s just a good outlet for you. Like, at the same time, like, you know, you have the human side to balance and and you have the performance side, and you know, you’re trying to deal with both, and at times it can be a lot. So I think it’s maybe the most important thing that I have as part of like my team and the people that I work with is like, obviously, you know, my body and the performance and like, I want to be great, but I can’t do that if my mind’s not right. So I feel like that’s probably the most important thing.”
Clark also opened up about how she embraces the positive things she deals with, with the sports psych.
“I always talk about a lot of the positives too, like it’s not negatives. And a lot of time maybe it is a lot more positive of like things you notice you are doing really well or things that you know are helping the team, and it’s great to recognize those too. So it’s like a fine balance, and I think that’s the great part about it is like you celebrate all the great things doing.”
Clark’s approach is definitely working through the early part of the season, as she is averaging just nine assists per game and just under 9 assists for the Fever, which is off to an impressive 4-2 start to the season.
